The Division 2 Won’t Have Battle Royale Mode At Launch

Battle royale is a pretty hot genre these days with titles like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Fortnite: Battle Royale, H1Z1 (at least on PS4) and even Realm Royale finding success. Given that Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is set in a world where survival is of utmost importance, will there be a battle royale mode at some point?

GameSpot spoke to the game’s creative director Terry Spier who said that the aim is a consistent experience with plenty of additional modes. Battle royale won’t be one of them, at least not at launch.

“I love battle royale, but we’re not officially having any battle royale [content] at release. But, I mean, if you look at The Division, Survival was a really well-received mode and we had a lot of fun making it, we had a lot of fun playing it. So I think there’s definitely some interesting roots there, but there are no official plans to have battle royale at launch.”

The Division 2 heads to Washington D.C. where, despite the virus slowly burning out across the United States, rogue elements are looking to take control. Factions like the True Sons aim to exert control but modest communities of good folk also exist, trying to rebuild their way of life.

Along with the same gear grind, players will employ three new Specializations, each with a Signature Weapon, to fight through end-game content. Said end-game content includes raids, one of which accommodates 8 players. Releasing on March 15th 2019, The Division 2 will be heading to Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
