Nintendo Introduces Free Switch Upgrade Program

Nintendo is flying high with their latest console, the Nintendo Switch. The system has been going strong now for over two years and sees no sign of stopping anytime soon. That momentum will be helped with the new Switch Lite revision, as well as an updated model that Nintendo has quietly released of the original hardware. If you want to go the Lite route, you’ll just have to get a new Switch, but a select group of regular Switch owners can upgrade their normal sized Switch free of charge.

The upgrade was announced on July 17th, which you read all about here. If you happened to be unlucky enough to miss that memo and bought a Switch after that date, you can actually send your current system in to Nintendo and get a free upgrade to the new model with the better battery. This was confirmed to be for Nintendo of American via a Reddit users interaction with Nintendo service. As of now it remains unconfirmed for other regions.

There is small catch. The upgrade itself is free, but you’ll have to pay shipping and handling. It beats having to buy a whole new system, however, so there is that. Also note this does not apply to the Switch Lite, this is only about the regular model that will become standard as the ‘regular Switch’ on store shelves.
